I testify about how God set me free from an addiction to pornography. I can’t remember the exact year I started seeing pornography but it’s been years and it has always eaten me up with feelings of guilt, depression, unworthiness, feelings of being unclean and low self-esteem. It also robbed me of my relationship with God. I’d always go back to ask for forgiveness and promise God that I wouldn’t do it again because I really wasn’t comfortable with it, but then I’d still go back to it.
Every year, I wrote it among the three things I wanted God to do for me but I never really backed it up with God’s Word. I’d just write it, submit it and forget that I even asked God about it in the first place. In 2017, I wrote it again but this time I did it with the understanding that I wasn’t just doing a mere thing, and that this was important. So, I prayed consistently over it and meditated on some Scriptures that had to do with being set free from addiction.
Galatians 5:22-25 – NIV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
John 8:32 – NIV
32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Galatians 5:1 – NIV
1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
I kept reading, meditating and praying with these Scriptures that encouraged me to walk by the Spirit and not by the flesh. I started spending more time with God’s Word and just started enjoying His presence, and what He had to tell me. When I started, my aim was to gain freedom from pornography but at some point, I forgot the pornography topic and just studied God’s Word because it was so enlightening. I didn’t keep track of when the spirit of pornography left and I simply realized it’s been months since I saw pornography. I learnt that sin keeps you from God’s Word and God’s Word keeps you from sin. There was no place in my life for pornography anymore.
Now, pornography is a thing of the past as I have been set free, totally free. Praise GOD! It feels good to be free! I want to thank the New Wine Choir for working in accordance with God’s Word and will because every single time I came into church with guilt and feeling down, they always had a song for me; songs that gave me hope and built my faith. I also want to thank the teen workers because they let God use them to be blessings to us and also the pastors and The Carpenter’s Church as a whole. This is a very nice environment to be in, where the Word of God is taught transparently and undiluted. GOD’S WORD WORKS!!!
