WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HOUSE?

13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.”

1 Kings 17:13

When Elijah asked the widow of Zarephath for her last meal, he must have looked like a “wicked” man of God. Now, there are many wicked and manipulative men of God who say, “Give me your money,” when God did not ask them to do so. They are not using the money they receive to build dwelling places for God. They are using it to build monuments to themselves. However, for every counterfeit there is an original. Elijah is an example of an original, and there are many others today.

It really doesn’t matter if the school fees for your son who just gained admission into the university are yet to be paid, and God says “Bring that money.” It really doesn’t matter that your rent is due in two months time; and God says “Bring the money.” If He says, “Bring it” then do so. When the widow gave her last meal she never lacked again.

Her needs were met. Put your needs down and listen to what God is saying to you. That son will go to the university if you give your last today. The rent will be paid, if you bring out that thing you have. It is not a luxury to hear from God. Once you hear Him then do what He says.

Maybe you really genuinely want to give but you say, “Lord I have nothing.” There was a widow who said, “I have nothing,” when Elisha asked, “What do you have in your house?” (2 Kings 4:2). Friend, “What do you have in your house?” If you say “I don’t have a house,” then, “What do you have in your bag?” You say, “I don’t even have a bag,” then “What do you have on your body?” Don’t think your apparent present state of insufficiency gives you a valid excuse not to give. Indeed the opposite is the case! It is a valid reason for you to give.

Confession:
Father, I thank You for the truth that the apparent state of insufficiency I may face is not a valid reason for me not to give, rather, it is an opportunity for me to give and see You prove Yourself mighty and faithful to me in my finances. Amen.
