12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a Discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:12-13
The word “living” simply means alive, and active. The Word of God is a living thing. When you relate with the Word of God, don’t just relate with it as some abstract thing. It is a living thing. When you relate with somebody, you relate with them like someone who is alive, has emotions and other attributes that make them a person. You need to do the same thing with the Word of God.
Not only is the Word of God living, it is also powerful. A fly is a living thing. A lion is also a living thing. However, everyone knows there’s a difference between a fly and a lion! If you hear a lion roar, you will run for safety, but when you see a fly, you will want to swat it. The Word of God is not only living; it is equally powerful. No wonder the Bible tells us that all things are possible to them that believe.
The Scripture above also says that the Word of God can penetrate into the marrow. Speaking as a layman, I know that blood cells are formed in the bone marrow. If you have a blood disease, the Word of God is able to penetrate into your marrow and bring life into your blood stream. A little baby girl received such a miracle many years ago in our church. She was diagnosed with leukaemia (blood cancer). Her parents had an initial panic attack and were beginning to seek for facts from medical books on the disease. Shortly after, her parents refocused and decided to go back to the living and powerful Word of God to get the truth on healing. To cut a long story short, that young baby was miraculously healed and she is now a healthy pre-teenager. The Word of God is a living thing and it overshadows any other thing. Glory be to God!
Confession:
The Word of God is living and powerful. The Word of God overrides and overshadows every other living thing through its power.
