1 Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.

2 Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, for you do not know what evil will be on the earth.

4 He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

5 As you do not know what is the way of the wind, or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, so you do not know the works of God who makes everything.

Ecclesiastes 11:1-2, 4-5

I am sure when God inspired the statement to cast our bread upon the waters, He must have known that there would be some who would not understand that expression. So, the very next verse says, “Give.” Casting your bread upon the water, in this context, is all about giving.

Giving is a supernatural principle. It is not natural for us to give. The heart of a natural man is desperately wicked and selfish. When you get born again, you need to work on renewing your mind with the Word of God, so that you can begin to operate on the supernatural level you have been lifted to. This is why, no matter how much of a giver you are, when you want to give out things that are especially precious, you are prone to calculate and recalculate. Your mind begins to list all the things you already gave and all the needs you have to meet, and you are likely to decide not to give that precious thing out. We are told to give a portion to seven and to eight (Ecclesiastes 11:2). Seven is the number of perfection, while eight is the number of new beginnings. So we can say that it means that when you feel you have given perfectly, start all over again and still give.

The operation of the supernatural law of giving and receiving is similar to when a couple wants to make a baby. They both get together and once the man has deposited his “seed,” there is nothing else they can do but rest in faith and leave the rest to God. In the law of giving and receiving, it is God who gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6). Don’t try to figure it out. Just put the seed and leave the rest to God. He is a faithful rewarder.

Confession: Father, I thank You for the supernatural law of giving and receiving You have given to me. I sow my seeds in faith and I rest in faith as I trust You to give me a supernatural harvest.
