THE GREATEST WORK EVER DONE BY GOD

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 1:19-20

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest work ever done by God. It was greater than creation. It was greater than the parting of the Red Sea. It was greater than Joshua telling the sun to stand still by the power of God. It was greater than little David knocking down giant Goliath with a stone in a sling. It was greater than old Sarah having a baby when everything had given up on her. The resurrection is the greatest work God ever did.

The word “exceeding” in Ephesians 1:19 means to throw beyond the usual mark; to surpass what is normal. Everything God had done up until the resurrection was just the usual or the normal. Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, speaks of the exceeding greatness of God’s power when Christ was raised from the dead. At the resurrection God went beyond the usual. God literally outdid Himself. The exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe is the combustible mix of God’s power that took place when Jesus was raised from the dead.

In the New Testament there are five words in the Greek language which mean “power.” All five but one of these words are found in Ephesians 1:19.
Take a look:
 Dunamis, which means inherent, stored power; miraculous power.
 Energia, which means outward, overt, displayed power. The English word, energy, comes from it.
 Kratos, which means ruling power, dominion or rulership. The word, democracy, is derived from it.
 Ischus, which means endowed power is the last word in the verse.

What a powerful verse!

Paul is trying to let you know that when Christ was raised from the dead, God did the greatest work He had ever done. He wants the church to consider the surpassing magnitude of the power, which God operated by His energy, when He raised Christ from the dead. When Christ was raised from the dead, God performed His mightiest work ever. You are the primary beneficiary of His greatest miracle. The resurrection is the guarantee that you can experience any miracle you may ever need.

Confession:

Thank You Father for the resurrection. There You outdid Yourself and performed the greatest miracle ever. I rejoice because I am a beneficiary of the greatest miracle.
