About sixteen months before this testimony, it was obvious that if I needed to advance in my career, I had to leave the employment I had then.
I work in an industry that has experienced serious challenges in recent times. Within three months, October – December 2009, from the date I attended an interview with a reputable organization, I was offered a job. The amazing thing about my offer was that I was leaving a seemingly disadvantaged organization at a lower level to a higher grade. That was almost illogical given industry trends. It was purely God’s sovereign goodness in action!
God led and guided me through the following eleven months. In December 2010, end of year appraisals were carried out. Though I got sterling appraisals, I was not recommended for promotion by both my line manager and my regional manager because I had not spent up to twelve months in the institution at a particular level. With this situation, I was not even contemplating a promotion.
On January 29th 2011, the promotion list was released. I did not bother to check it because I already knew the rationale behind the exercise. True to form, my name was not on the list. However, three days before Discovering Treasures, our Word conference here in Church, my regional executive emphatically said that I had been promoted to the next level and started reconstructing things around those lines. I was totally confused and just could not get myself to believe it. Then my line manager also mentioned the promotion.
On the 4th of February 2011, the day Discovering Treasures started, I received an email from HR saying that I had been promoted to the next level! This was the physical confirmation of something I had not yet been able to fathom. Everyone that heard it testified that it was pure miracle as there was no lobbying or “pushing of buttons” by any human.
I later heard that as a matter of policy, any person that had obtained above a particular score in an appraisal exercise was to be promoted irrespective of the length of time the person had spent in the organization, and whether or not the person’s employment had been confirmed. Just like the workman who was employed at the eleventh hour got a denarius as those who toiled all day, God’s sovereignty was displayed in my life. The Bible says that the lines have fallen to us in pleasant places. Despite my unbelief, God still proved Himself true to His Word, how much more if we trust and believe.
