23 He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’”
24 Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country.”
Luke 4:23-24
Jesus was called a physician by the people. A physician is simply another name for a doctor. The people recognized that He healed other people. He was called a physician because He was always doing it as a practice. It must have gone beyond the healing of just one or two people. I prefer to say that He did it as a profession. Jesus is a Physician. We belong to a better covenant, so you can personalize it and say, “Jesus is my Physician.”
Your personal Physician is Jesus. You can’t compare a doctor who has been practicing for twenty years with a doctor who just graduated from medical school even if he made the best result in his class. Out there in the “real world” he’s not experienced. Jesus has been a Doctor for centuries, and He is your personal Physician. He said, “…I am the LORD who heals you” (Exodus 15:26).
When He said that, He was saying, “I am your personal Doctor.” Digest that, live with that, think about that on a daily basis.
Jehovah is the One that heals you, and He came in the person of Jesus Christ, so that you can relate with the truth that Jesus is your personal Doctor. Picture the Man, Jesus as your personal Physician. Think of Him standing beside you saying, “I am the Doctor who has come personally to attend to you.” If there’s a need for a surgery, think of Him carrying out the surgery Himself. He does not forget surgical implements in the stomachs of His patients! No matter how good a doctor is, he still has his human limitations. However, this personal Doctor of yours has no limitations – He never loses a case that is truly committed into His care.
Confession:
Jesus is my personal Physician. I receive Him as the Physician sent to personally attend to me. Jesus my personal Physician is unlimited and has never lost a case!
