6 Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.

Genesis 39:6

Genesis 39 contains the story of Joseph. It talks about Joseph working and serving his master. Whatever he did God caused it to prosper. He had favour in the sight of God and he served the master.

When you serve, nobody might be watching you and your boss might not even reward you, but God will reward your labour of love (Hebrews 6:10). He will pay you. Moses told the Israelites to go and ask jewels of gold and silver because payday had come for them. God had seen all the work they had been doing and decided that payday had come. What God was actually say- ing to them was this: “All the years you have laboured as slaves, I’m paying you now for them.” If the Egyptians gave all their gold to the Israelites, it means they no longer had any gold. Whatever you are doing now be faithful in it because payday is coming.

I found out that nowadays people want to attend Christian hospitals and Christian schools: schools whose proprietors are self-professing Christians. They say that Christian schools have a certain standard. This is because God is bring- ing us into favour while the unbeliever is in a disadvantaged position. We shouldn’t abuse this; instead, we should promote God’s favour. I’ve made up my mind that I’m going to promote God’s favour in my life. That is why I cannot put up with mediocrity; I have a zero tolerance for it.

When ministers are invited to preach in our church, they are amazed at the order and organization they find. They tease me and they wonder how I cope when I am invited to minister in other churches, because unfortunately, in most Christian gatherings, mediocrity is the order of the day.
