2 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
3 “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.
4 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
1 Kings 17:2-4
A good example of following God supernaturally is here, when God told Elijah that there was a famine coming and he should go to the Brook Cherith and that the ravens would feed him there. That is supernatural. It is one thing for God to give a supernatural command, it is another thing for you to receive the supernatural command and obey it and receive supernatural results. Now do you know that ravens are very selfish birds? They don’t even feed their young ones. It is supernatural to expect such a selfish bird to be a food distributor in the time of famine.
What if God spoke to Elijah but Elijah stayed there analyzing God’s command, convinced that God must have made a mistake? How many times have you done this and missed your miracle? You may never know how many times! God’s Word to Elijah was, “I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” The operative word is “there.” What if Elijah was like Naaman and said, “Brook Cherith or Brook Kidron – does it really matter? A brook is a brook. I will go to the closest one.” His bread would have gone stale in the Brook Cherith and he would have gone hungry at another brook.
Let me say this here. One of the worst things that has happened to Christianity in Nigeria today, is the “open a church on every corner” syndrome. Apart from the fact that you have situations where people who are barely born again are pastoring such churches and parishes, a lot of believers make decisions for choosing a local church based on proximity, and proximity alone. That is far from supernatural. Proximity may be a factor, but it shouldn’t be the only factor. The fact that your landlord kicks you out of your house and you have to move to another part of town should not automatically translate to your changing church to a church closer to your new home. Consider super- natural factors as well when you make such a destiny decision. You may be dying of hunger in that new church and your bread is going stale somewhere else called “there.”
Confession:
I do not rationalize the leading of God or His Word. I consider supernatural factors in following God.
