1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.
2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.
4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.
5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
6 But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.
8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.
9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
Daniel 2:1-11 (KJV)
The Scriptures in Daniel 2:1-11 give a vivid account of Daniel, facing and overcoming an impossible situation. King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, and his spirit was troubled to know the meaning. He called the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans to interpret his dream. However, he wouldn’t tell them the dream; on the contrary, he asked them to tell him his dream instead and also give the interpretation. That way, he would know they were not lying. In response to this, the Chaldeans said, “No one has ever asked this from mere mortals before. It is impossible with men. It is only the gods that can reveal this, and these gods don’t dwell among men”. Verse 12 of Daniel 2 further tells us that the king became very angry and furious, and commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be killed. Unfortunately, this included Daniel and his companions. When Daniel heard about this, he did something.
In this article, we will learn four very important lessons from Daniel’s response to the king’s request.
15 He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.
17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
Daniel 2:15-22 (KJV)
Take Advantage Of Your Access To The King
The first thing you must know if you are going to overcome impossible situations is that you have open access to the King. Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time. If Daniel could ask Arioch, the king’s captain who was told to carry out the execution, “Why is the decree so hasty from the king?” and after he was told, he went to the king and asked him to give him time, that means Daniel knew he had access to the king. That is very instructive. If you are going to overcome every obstacle and situation that men call impossible, you must take advantage of the access you have to the King.
When the Chaldeans added that the dream can only be revealed by the gods, and these gods do not dwell among men, they were in effect saying that they don’t have access to the gods; but you’ve got access to your King. Take advantage of the access you have, and go into His presence, especially when He has given you an open invitation. The Bible says you should come boldly and obtain mercy and find grace to help in a time of need (Hebrews 4:16). No matter what the situation is, take advantage of the access you have towards the King.
Take Advantage Of The Time
The second thing you must know is that you must take advantage of the time you have. When David asked the king for some time, he didn’t go back to do irrelevant things or while away in dirty jokes; he took advantage of the time he had obtained. Don’t waste your time on irrelevant things, study your Bible, and pray in tongues at every given opportunity. Make use of every time you have and pray the purpose of God upon your life. Pray the purpose of God upon your local assembly. Pray the purpose of God upon your pastors. Pray the purpose of God upon your brothers and your sisters; take advantage of the access and the time you have.
Take Advantage Of Men Of Like Passion
Thirdly, if you are going to do the impossible, you must go and meet men of like passion. The Bible says that Daniel went to meet his companions. Who were his companions? They were Mishael, Hananiah, and Azariah. Note that they were not the only captives taken to Babylon; there were others. However, he went to them because they were men of like passion.
Associate yourself with brethren of like passion. If, for example, after you visit a particular brother or sister, you don’t feel as encouraged as you should because he or she said things that depressed you, leave such people. Have companions who are of like passion so you can do the work of God together. When you associate and work with people of like passion, the impossible will be at your fingertips. What others have termed “an impossible situation” will be a possible situation for you because when you are with people of like passion, secrets will be revealed to you.
Surround Yourself With The Light
19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
Daniel 2:19-22 (KJV)
Fourthly, to overcome impossible situations, you must surround yourself with the light of God’s Word. I once listened to a preacher on a television show and he said that amid the economic crises with no employment, people go to churches and they tell them that God will bless you, God will multiply your resources, God will do this and that. So, he sarcastically asked this question, “Where are all these things supposed to come from?” At that point, I knew that was the limit of his Biblical knowledge because his economy was purely based on the economy of the country, and that is not what God teaches us. It goes beyond that.
The Bible says that God revealed the secret to Daniel. The Bible also tells us in Isaiah 45:3 that there are riches in secret places and hidden riches in the dark places. Verse 22 of our text also says that God knows what is in the darkness, within Him and around Him is light. Therefore, the way to know what is in the secret places is to surround yourself with the light and not with the economic situation.
These things are hidden, but they are not hidden from you; rather, they are hidden for you. I am not disputing the fact that some pastors are taking undue advantage of their members, but if every born-again Christian will practice the heavenly economic principle, they will all be very wealthy, and they wouldn’t even have scratched the surface of God’s wealth. Until you find them, they will remain there in secret places. Sadly, Christians are lazy about surrounding themselves with the light; with knowledge, so, they just want everything to happen. This is not so. It will only happen when you surround yourself with light and with the knowledge of the Word of God. It doesn’t matter whether there is darkness all over, God through the light that you have surrounded yourself with, will show you where that thing is.
Daniel said that God has given him wisdom and might (Daniel 2:23). That means wisdom and might belong to God. Once you have wisdom; an application of revealed knowledge, then you will have power in your hands. When you have power in your hands, you will do the impossible. You will not attain the impossible when you remain a dormant Christian. The way to attain the impossible is to take advantage of the access you have, take advantage of the time you have, take advantage of the company of people who are of like passion; the right association, and surround yourself with the light. The light that you have within you and are surrounded with will help you locate those things that are in the dark and secret places.
