Motivated By The Word

24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

1 Corinthians 9:24

I was involved in competitive sports at various levels in the past. I know that there are times when you begin to play (especially when it is an individual game, not a group game), and your opponent is gaining the upper hand, your coach comes and tells you, “You can make it.” If you can get yourself together and tell yourself, “I know I am better than this; I can win this game,” you will find out that you will actually do better and win the game.

There is no motivation or encouragement better than that. Once you do that, the game changes and everybody is astounded and begins to wonder what happened. Motivation is good, but thanks be to God because your source of motivation is not just self motivation, it is motivation that is based on the Word of God. You have the Word of God to motivate yourself. If you allow the Word of God to be the basis for your motivation, then beyond the sky shall be your limit.

As a Christian, you can find motivation from the Word of God. You can find out what the Word of God says concerning you and use it to motivate yourself. The Bible says that Jesus for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross despising the shame (Hebrews 12:2). You can motivate yourself with this. The Bible also says, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38). You can use this promise to motivate yourself. Don’t say, “Oh! My boss does not pay me well.” God is not mocked, and it is whatever a man sows that he shall also reap (Galatians 6:7). If you are doing the will of God, “good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over” will come to you whether or not your boss pays you well.

Confession:
I am determined to win the race that is set before me. I find motivation from the Word to win the crown.
