2 My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; the humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Psalm 34:2
You may have tried the first time and failed, but try a second time and a third time: keep on trying till you win. In 2 Kings 5:14, when the leprous man was asked to dip in the Jordan, he was not cleansed until the seventh time. He had to motivate himself to dip seven times; it was after the seventh time that his flesh was restored “like that of a little child’s.”
Likewise, when God told the children of Israel to go round the walls of Jericho, the walls did not come down the first time. They could have become discouraged and called themselves failures, but they didn’t; they went round the walls six times and then the seventh time, the walls came down, just like God had said they would (Joshua 6). In order to get the results God had promised them, these people had to motivate themselves to do what God had told them to do, even when nothing seemed to have changed for the better.
Another example: when the twelve spies spied on the Promised Land, ten of them that came back said they could not take the land (Numbers 13:26-33). The majority said it was an impossible thing to do. Realize that in God’s scheme of things, majority does not necessarily carry the vote. With my God, it is not a game of the majority. Caleb and Joshua, two men, came and spoke against the majority (Numbers 14:6-9). Caleb said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30). Then he said with Joshua, “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey'” (Numbers 14:7-8).
Motivate yourself!
Confession:
I am motivated to do what God has called me to do. I am motivated to become whom God has designed me to be. By using God’s Word, I am my best motivator. I use the promises of God to encourage myself to do what God’s grace has enabled me to do.
