15 Now on the day that the tabernacle was raised up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the Testimony; from evening until morning it was above the tabernacle like the appearance of fire.
16 So it was always: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.

Numbers 9:15-16

It was on the day the tabernacle was raised up, that the cloud covered the tabernacle. Your tabernacle was raised up the day you got born again and gave your life to Jesus Christ. On that day, God’s presence came to dwell on the inside of you and therefore, you received the ability to follow God’s Spirit. The Bible says that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you.

Do you see that following God’s Spirit is part of your birthright as a born again child of God? It is not something you have to beg for. I have said this time and time again: “It is not a luxury to hear from God.” It is your right.

Numbers 9:16 in the New Living Translation says, “This was the regular pattern…” There was something predictable about the cloud and the appearance of fire. God would not change the cloud and fire, even if His people said they were bored of having the cloud by day and the fire by night and so put a cloud by night and fire by day. No. It was a regular pattern.

Reading and meditating on the Word of God should become a regular pattern. Spending time in worship and prayer should become a regular pattern. As you begin or continue to walk with God, you will find out that there are certain regularities and similarities in the way you follow God’s Spirit because it is a lifestyle. For some they are led by a strong “knowing” in their hearts that may start from a fleeting thought, for others they have dreams through which God ministers to them. For everyone, the Word of God brings revelation that gives direction. There is a relationship existing between your Father and you, His child. As long as there is that relationship, there will be a regular pattern in your following God’s Spirit.
