Loved Equally

23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me..

John 17:23

Consider this analogy. Two sons of God, Jesus and you, are in water about to drown and so you call out to your Father, God, for help. God comes in a two-seater boat and with only one seat free, He faces a dilemma? Who would God save? Jesus or you?

Those who say “Jesus,” are wrong for He would not save Jesus and let you drown. Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Galatians 2:20). It means Jesus is in you, so letting you drown would be equivalent to letting Jesus drown. Those who answer “Me” are also wrong, for it is the Jesus in you that has made you worth saving, so God will not save you and let Jesus drown. Therefore, He cannot make a choice over Jesus or you. That is the moral of this fictitious analogy I invented. You want to know the answer I give to this? Can you guess? God (who cannot drown), will jump out of the boat, give up His seat and let you and Jesus get back ashore safely!

Can you see that this is like asking me to save one of my daughters Zoë or Chloe over the other if they are drowning? If I save Zoë because she’s my first daughter, then will Chloe drown? Or if I choose Chloe because she’s my younger daughter, then will Zoë drown? I can’t choose one over the other. That’s exactly the same relationship you have with Jesus. Jesus just happens to be your older brother. Your Father cannot choose one over the other. That’s why you and I can be joint heirs with Christ in accessing the Father’s inheritance because the way God loves Jesus, is the same way He loves you and me. God doesn’t love any of His children any less. You know, to accept this awesome truth, it takes an understanding that God loves you unreservedly and He has bestowed His grace abundantly on someone as undeserving as you.

Confession:
Thank You Father for loving me just as You love Christ Jesus.
