On the eve of January 20th at about 9.00 p.m., I got a call from a friend. He asked, “How is your dad and when last did you talk or see him?” I replied saying we had spent part of the day together. He further asked that I should try to reach him. At this point, I was truly startled, having several worries which were invariably scary too. I made several attempts to call my dad’s phone for a while, it was not reachable until it was eventually switched off. I called my sister who was at home at the time to inquire of dad’s state and condition, but she informed me that she went to church and was not back yet but that our mum was home. I called back my friend and insisted to know why he called. It was heavy in my ears when he said, “I just heard that your dad has been kidnapped”. For a while, I was quiet and confused. “Why would anyone want to harm a pastor, Pastor Ngito”, I wondered? I was quick to call my sister, especially to help her get in control of herself and her emotions since she was with my mum who had just recovered. She panicked for a while but having shared past testimonies of God’s faithfulness and God’s promises to shield and protect invariably, reminding her of the devil and his strategies to afflict especially with fear and doubt, she pulled herself together and acted right for our mum’s sake.
My dad is a long serving pastor and a servant of God serving with the Deeper Life Bible Church, primarily in Eleme region. Thus, early the next morning, the regional overseer of the church was sent to get first-hand information on what had happened at the state overseer’s beckoning. The visits and faith confessions were endless. People came in varying numbers mostly with words of assurance, especially since he had just come down from the pulpit before his abduction. Amazingly, I watched men, women, both young and most surprisingly the extremely aged, rarely and honestly cry and pray for my dad’s supernatural release and divine safety. Many lamented of how much of a life-long blessing he has been to them, noting his peaceful, selfless, humanitarian and extra-ordinarily quiet nature in unique charisma. Several religious, traditional and political leaders at varying levels made contact with my family and joined us in faith for supernatural protection, release and unction for greater manifestation, yet with no smell of smoke. Amazingly, kingpins of several cultism sects, gang leaders and militancy group heads made contact with us too, reassuring us that no one can or would ever hurt God’s anointed.
Tied eyes and hands in a thick forest, severally far in distance from where any human has lived or existed, in-between Eleme and Oyigbo, my dad later recounts of the intense hurtful and terrible beatings he got from these boys. They beat him to the extent he began to bleed from his nose and ears. Through it all, God was with him. They frequently asked him to do devotions and pray for them at the start of the day, which he immediately seized to minister God’s Word and love to them. Prayers didn’t seize and God’s goodness continued to manifest. After days of trauma, threats, plea and negotiations, they settled for a ransom way below every party’s expectation as though they had lost their senses and were already regretting abducting him as they later openly confessed. “What kind of a man are you? Everybody we call and several others who have called us have instructed us not to hurt you because you are a good man. What kind of a man are you? Every time we’ve planned to do evil things to you, after our meeting, we just loose reason and prowess to cause you more harm”. Indeed, God gave His angels charge to keep him and in God’s hands, he found solace.
He was released and reunited with the family on the night of the 24th of January. Prior to his release, we were all worried about his health as we knew him to have issues with his blood pressure. Well, miraculously, after several tests, x-rays and medical examinations were carried out, it was reported that his blood pressure was normal. Ha ha ha hallelujah! Just as Pastor Sola, Pastor Chuks and others had joined in faith with me to declare, indeed, there was no smell of smoke.
My testimony is not just a supernatural release from abductors but of the great manifestations that my family has experienced since that period. When the devil tried to give us reason to fear, indeed, God is a faithful rewarder. He never abandons His own. Hearty thanks and appreciation to all who stood with us in faith with me, as well and my family through this time. God will fully reward your effort of love. Thank you so much.
