In 2004, I went for LASIK surgery to correct my vision, and was told by the doctor that after the surgery, I will need reading glasses. About six months down the line, I woke up one morning to realize that I had lost my vision. The whole room was spinning and every object appeared double. I was taken to the emergency unit for check up, but they could not find the cause, so I was kept there for observation. After a while, I regained my sight and returned home, but my vision was no longer as clear as it was previously. However, there was no need for prescription. Four years after the surgery, I noticed that I could no longer see clearly and therefore needed prescription lens. The strength of my prescription got higher, and needed changing every three months. At this point, I knew something was not quite right with my eyes.
In 2010, I decided to go and see an ophthalmologist. During the eye assessment, the technician’s prognosis was a disease called keratoconus. Keratoconus is a vision disorder that occurs when the normally round cornea, (the front part of the eye) becomes thin and irregular or cone shaped. This abnormal shape prevents light entering the eye from being focused correctly on the retina, causing distortion of the vision. The following year I went to Boots Opticians in the United Kingdom, and they also informed me that I had the same disease.
One day, I made up my mind to go back to England and have the treatment done. The day I was to see the ophthalmologist again, the Holy Spirit told me that I needed faith. In fear, I interpreted that to mean God did not want me to see the doctor, but to have faith and confess the Word. So I had a great holiday, returned to Nigeria and immediately started building my faith by listening to healing messages and confessing out God’s medicine by Pastor Charles. I did this until it dawned on me that my healing was a done deal, and that what I needed was a rhema action. If anyone had hit me with a cricket bat and asked me if I was healed, the answer would have been in the affirmative. Such was the extent of my belief that I was healed.
During this time, my vision kept getting worse. It got to an extent that I lost vision on my left eye, and even with my glasses I could hardly see well with the other eye. Every object and people were distorted, I could be staring at someone, but not recognize them. I did not catch the revelation behind the rhema action until the day Pastor Nkechi preached about whose fault it was, that the woman with the issue of blood was getting worse. It hit me that I could go and see the doctor, because my faith had to be put to the test. So with the help of a friend, I went praying and researching again on the treatment of keratoconus. We found out that there were new techniques, which were not as evasive and not frightening. We also prayed and searched for the right Clinic, the right Consultant and a reasonable cost. I went ahead and fixed an appointment without money for the payment. I told God that if His hand was in it, He should provide the money. The following day someone gave me a huge sum of money for no apparent reason, other than to bless me! I knew that was from God, because it had never happened to me before. The money amounted to two thirds of the cost of the treatment, after I had paid off my tithe and offering.
I applied to the company where I work for assistance, but was told that due to the abuse of privilege by some staff, that door had been closed. They suggested that I should apply to the State Government instead. On the week I was expected to travel, the administrator of the company where I work approved some money for me, and the accounts unit cleared the cheque within a day. To the glory of God, the treatment was successful and my eyes are healing very well. I can now read with my left eye. I believe I received full restoration of my sight.
