My wife had gone to pick the children from the school, and on their way back, they had to wait for a little while before crossing the road since there was a minor gridlock. My little daughter had been complaining about the strap of her backpack, probably it was too tight for her. Since my wife needed both hands to adjust the strap, she had to let go of my son’s hand. Without waiting for his mother, he tried to cross the road on his own. A reckless keke driver knocked him down and did not even bother to stop. This was a clear case of hit-and-run.
My son passed out as a result of the impact. His left shoe was torn to shreds and his head was swollen. My wife, on seeing what had happened, was so traumatized that she could not control my little daughter who was screaming and running wild. A sympathetic passer-by had to hold my daughter and calmed her down. Vehicles were screeching to a halt as the drivers tried to avoid causing more harm to my son as he lay on the road unconscious. At this point, the only thing my wife could say was, “Jesus, have mercy. Jesus, help me.” Instantly, she heard a voice telling her, “I will help you.”
Out of the blues, God brought two “good Samaritans” who were driving from Iwofe road and heading towards Ada George road. When they got to the scene and saw my son lying immobile in the middle of the road with my wife in a very pathetic state, they immediately volunteered to rush him to the hospital. They took my wife, my son and my little daughter to Omega Children Hospital. They were attended to quickly in the hospital as the medical personnel instantly took my son to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The medical team did what they had to do, and God revived him. After taking an x-ray and carrying out other tests, the medical team came to the conclusion that he was okay but had a minor fracture on his tibia after they had looked at the results. Without wasting more time, they referred my son to Rehoboth Clinic, an orthopaedic specialist hospital, for further treatment. We, immediately, began to experience the hand of God upon him, as his recuperation was very fast. My son was discharged the following day.
God turned what could have been a time of mourning into a time of dancing and rejoicing. His ever-abiding presence has been so tangible in my life and in my family. Praise God!
