2 Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2

At the time we got married, my husband and I were oilfield, expatriate engineers in a multinational corporation. This was a good season. We were paid well and we had a career ahead of us in that company. However, we also had a dream.

Then, sooner than we thought, it became obvious we had to follow that dream. It was a new season. We voluntarily left our lucrative and well paying jobs – at the same time! It looked like an apparent demotion or loss – it looked like madness. After living and working in different parts of the world as expatriates, we came back home.

We had found out that earning a good salary and the expenses of living internationally did not guarantee you a lot of savings. Initially, we couldn’t get an apartment within the range of what we could afford.

We had to live with his bachelor younger brother for a few months in a small but decent apartment. Then we got a house, one that had been abandoned on a particular estate and nobody wanted to lease it. That should have told us something. The house was located along the storm drain path in the estate. Therefore during the rainy season, our garden became a “raging ocean.” The first couple of years that we lived in the house, we had no real furniture. We used our old wrappers (printed fabric) as curtains and slept on a mattress for those years. Coming from an expatriate lifestyle that looked like a demotion! My mum used to cry and pray for us and offered us whatever little money she had because she was convinced we were starving. Indeed we came close to starving but we knew where we were going. We were simply in a season that would soon change.

Confession:

Lord, You laid aside Your majesty by faith just to have me as Your own child. You considered me, worth the sacrifice of Your life. No sacrifice is too much for me to walk in the fullness of Your will and Your purpose for my life. I will be patient through the seasons of my life.
