1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith IS – present tense. Faith is not future tense. Faith is now. If you catch yourself saying things like, “I believe I will be healed someday,” that is not faith. You might think it is, but it is not. That means you must be waiting for something, some evidence for you to know that you are healed. Have you not read in Hebrews 11:1 that faith is the evidence of things not seen? If you are looking for some other evidence, it means faith is not your evidence. “I believe I will be healed,” is different from “I believe I am healed.” Saying, “I believe that one day my needs will be met,” is not faith. Faith is, “My needs are met now.” It is a thin line, but it is a dividing line between victory and failure, between life and death. Now, that is a sobering thought.
Another implication of faith being present tense is that now is the time to live by faith. Now is the time to build your faith. Now is the time to believe God for the small things. Now is the time to trust God for the little things. Create opportunities to exercise your faith in God’s Word. This is the time for faith. You can’t postpone it until the flood hits and in a panic you start looking for your faith desperately. You can’t ignore faith because you are to live by faith.
The minute you see the symptom of a minor headache is an opportunity to build your faith. Do you want to be diagnosed with an incurable condition like cancer of the breast or a malignant brain tumour before you begin to attempt to use your faith? Doctors are a gift from God, but they do not always work with God and they do not always have the answers. Faith is now.
Confession:
I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I am just and I live by faith. Faith is a today experience for me. I will not postpone building my faith. I will engage the Word of God and engage my covenant today because faith is now!
