15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace,
16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood.

Galatians 1:15-16

Imagine, a young man, a cult member, becoming born again and he begins to serve in church. The pastor may have spotted the grace of God upon the brother’s life to become a pastor two days after he got born again. However, because the pastor follows the principle of progression, he may just watch him as he keeps serving while he grows into his call. That’s the grace of God. The time of “calling” is not the time of “separation.”

Another common example in the Body of Christ that shows ignorance concerning the grace of God is where a pastor gets married and his wife is immediately “promoted” into the office of a pastor. A person should stand in any office, by the grace of God, and not by who they are married to. It will be thrilling to see couples who are called into fulltime ministry to pastor God’s people or teach His Word or even serve as evangelists together. However, God does not have stereotypes. This erroneous practice has put pressure on bachelor pastors to marry ladies they think have a call of God into the ministry, or who fit the “mama” of the church picture.

When they do this, they are not necessarily getting married because of love or purpose, or because they are truly excited about the lady. They marry because there is a position to be filled. Simple. That is not the grace of God. Many times such pastors have miserable marriages and spend all their lives trying to hide it.

My husband is not a pastor, but I am one. He is one of the highest non-clergy leaders in our church and a business executive. His call is to serve in the kingdom and generate wealth for the kingdom. In the early days, people used to address him as “Pastor” thinking that was what he wanted or that he suffered from some kind of insecurity or inferiority complex because his wife was a pastor and he was not. He would always correct them firmly and remain with his title of “Brother.”

Your confidence lies in your place of grace. God is the One who calls you from your mother’s womb. As you grow in the Lord, you discover the call upon your life and receive grace to operate in it.
