12 That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.
Ephesians 2:12-14
You were alienated before, but now you are near. Your mind is no longer far away. What brought you close to God was the blood of Jesus. His blood brought about our reconciliation. His blood brought us together. He was chastened, disciplined, and rebuked for us. He was not the One who went astray, yet He carried our sins for us, so that we could come back to where we belong. The good thing about being close is that you are in fellowship with God Almighty.
I remember a brother who had gotten so discouraged, distressed and depressed about the stagnant and even retrogressive state of affairs in his life and business that he stopped coming to church. Friend, when you are discouraged you should be coming to church and not running from church! Of course, the assumption here is that you attend a real Bible believing church. On Sunday mornings, this brothers family would come to church even if they had to walk most of the way, but he wouldnt. Unknown to us, he began to consult with so called prayer houses, looking for a solution to his problem. He had gone his own way and was fast becoming estranged and alienated from the covenants of promise that God had with him. One morning I looked out for him and again I did not see him in church. I sent my personal brand new car and an usher to drive all the way to his home and chauffeur him to church. He was shocked. That act of love from his pastor was one of the ways that God helped him see His commitment to his affairs. Thank God he repented and was no longer far off. God’s love brought him near again. God caused a turnaround in his life and now he is an employer of labour with a thriving business.
Confession:
I have been brought near by the blood of Jesus Christ.
