5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
Luke 5:5
Peter and his companions were professional fishermen and they knew that the best time to catch fish is at night time. However, on this occasion they had toiled throughout the night but did not catch any fish. Jesus, the Word of God, who can perform miracles in season and out of season, came during the day – not at night. He told them to launch out into the deep, and let down their nets for a catch (Luke 5:4).
Peter’s thinking must have been: We are professional fishermen and we know the best time to catch fish is at night and we have toiled all night and we didn’t catch anything. Thank God, he didn’t stop there in the realm of natural excuses and logical explanations. He had enough sense to say, “Nevertheless, at your word…” At this, he acted on the Word, and when he let down his net, they enclosed so much fish that they had to beckon to their partners in the other ships to come and help them! From zero to overflow!
God wants to bless you so much that you will need partners to help you. You will reap an abundant harvest of blessings into your life when you act on His Word.
You must learn to do things “at His Word.” I remember in 1990, I made a decision “at His Word” to get up and leave the city where I had been a pastor for many years and come to the south of Nigeria. I came to Port Harcourt, a city I had never been to before, to start a new church, simply “at His Word.” Looking back now I wonder at such simple faith, because all I had to hold onto was His Word. I knew no one in Port Harcourt; nevertheless “at His Word” I came. I had only about N250 (Two hundred and fifty Naira only) the equivalent of $1.50 (One US Dollar and fifty cents in 2011) to my name; nevertheless “at His Word” I came. I did not even know where I would sleep the first night; nevertheless “at His Word” I came. Twenty one years later, God’s abundant harvest of blessing is my testimony. What are you willing to do “at His Word”?
Confession:
There is miraculous power in the Word. I decide to do things at His Word and an abundant harvest of blessings will be mine every time I act upon it.
