1 Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.
2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”
John 20:1-2
What can one possibly see in a tomb but a dead body? Why wake up before dawn to go to a tomb? Something has got to be wrong with you to do that! That was exactly what Mary Magdalene did. In Mathew 27:56, 61; 28:1 and John 20:15 we see proof that this woman was addicted to Jesus. Dead or alive she had to be around Him. She had built her life around this Man who took seven demons out of her. A thankful heart creates an addiction to Jesus Christ.
To be addicted means to have a habit that is impossible to break, or to be devoted habitually to something. Somebody who has an addiction does not care what other people think. Mary Magdalene woke up in the morning before others could wake up and went to the tomb. She did not know who would roll away the stone for her, but no obstacle could stop her addiction. When she saw the tomb empty and ran off, you would think she thought He had risen. No; she panicked! The object of her addiction was missing. She ran and called the others, and when they came and saw that Jesus was not there, they went back home.
Mary sat there weeping. She was having withdrawal symptoms. Have you seen somebody who is addicted to drugs? They must take a shot every single time or they will experience withdrawal symptoms. Mary needed to see Jesus. She was not weeping because she thought He was alive, because in John 20:15, when she thought He was the gardener she said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” You don’t carry somebody who is alive or lay a living person down. She did not say, “Sir, if He has risen from the dead…” Therefore, Mary wasn’t necessarily walking in a depth of revelation.
What Mary Magdalene did shows that you do not need to have a depth of rev- elation, to be addicted to Jesus. You just need to have a thankful heart. Do you have a thankful heart? If you do, then you would be addicted to Jesus.
Confession:
Father, I am grateful for the things You have done for me. My life is consciously built around You, so praise and thanksgiving flow out of me spontaneously to You. I have a thankful heart and I’m addicted to You..
