23 He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’”
24 Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country.”
Luke 4:23-24
The problem here in Jesus’ hometown wasn’t the efficacy of His healing power; it was their inability to accept Him as a prophet and as a physician. Another word for accept is to receive. Although Jesus is your personal Physician, if you don’t receive what He has done, nothing will happen.
It is interesting when I see people enjoy amazing healings just by exhibiting childlike faith, in receiving Jesus as their Physician. I remember a sister who testified of having done this by proxy for someone else. Her roommate complained to her about a very painful swelling on her neck. By Saturday of that week, simple actions like talking, laughing and eating became very difficult and unbearably painful.
The next day, Sunday morning, the sister came to Healing School while her roommate stayed in the room in severe pain. At the end of that meeting, I was led to ask those who had any condition to stand and place their hands on places of ailment. That sister stood up and placed her hand on her neck in faith and received healing on behalf of her friend. She simply believed Jesus and took Him at His Word. When she got back she told her roommate what she did. However, that night the symptoms got worse and the pain from the neck spread to her ears and face. They remained in agreement that God had healed her. The next day, a doctor saw her roommate and diagnosed her with thyroiditis. The roommate kept declaring, “My friend stood up for me on Sunday and I have received my healing.” Miraculously, from the day the doctor gave his diagnosis, the swelling reduced and the pain eventually disappeared. Today she is healed and there is no pain whatsoever and no trace of thyroiditis. Praise the Lord!
Jesus couldn’t do any healing work in His hometown because they didn’t accept His role as a Physician. The key is to accept Him as your Physician. If you do, you will be healed and completely whole from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet.
Confession:
Jesus is my Physician. I accept His role as my Physician and I am completely whole in every part of my body.
