THE SUPERNATURAL IS NOT INTELLECTUAL

14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:14

Following God’s Spirit is supernatural. There is nothing natural about a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. People have tried to come up with all kinds of geographical and meteorological explanations as to how the cloud and the fire could have happened. However, each explanation has gone down the drain because they were supernatural events. They were not intellectual. There is no angle from where you can prove that a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day are intellectual. They were supernatural. Somebody who was the worst of all sinners getting born again and then instantly becoming the tabernacle of God Almighty is supernatural. Somebody being guided to make a strange, illogical destiny decision is supernatural, not intellectual.

In the early years of ministry as I was being trained under Pastor Charles (I’m not sure I’m out of the training yet) I had to learn one lesson the hard way. Sometimes he would call me a mathematician and that irritated me because sometimes the things that are most true about you are the things that irritate you the most. If you allow yourself to have a pastor, a father, or somebody whom God has put over you to guide or to mentor you, those things that are true, after irritating and offending you, will fall off and initiate a change in you. He would tell me something that needed to happen in church and it would not follow my logical thinking.

I am a trained Electronics Engineer with a first-class honours degree, so you can see that naturally for me one plus one had to be equal to two or I would have a problem with it. I would try to under- stand with my head and he would tell me, “Pastor Nkechi, this is not mathematics.” The more he said that to me, the more I began to understand that following God’s Spirit, is supernatural and not logical. Sometimes, it won’t make sense. You have to receive it with your heart and not with your head.

Confession:

God is supernatural. I receive God’s leading in my heart.
