26 And said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”

Exodus 15:26

If you work in an organization you will most likely be given a job description. Sometimes you are asked by the organization to create your own job description when you are experienced or you are in a novel job. It seems that here the Lord is telling us His job description where our healing is concerned. He is the Lord that heals us. That is His ministry in our lives and He is committed to it. Awesome! The phrase, “…I am the Lord who heals you,” could be substituted with, “I am the Lord your Doctor or your Physician.” That phrase gives us one of His covenant names – Jehovah Rapha.

How can someone be a doctor committed to curing people and also be the one spreading affliction and sickness on people? Only a schizophrenic, wicked scientist of a doctor would experiment with people that way. God is not like that. James 1:17 tells us that God is constant and there is no variableness in Him. If He says “I am the Lord your Doctor,” then can He be the Lord who is putting sickness upon people? Definitely not! In no circumstance or situation does God ever put sickness on anyone.

Now somebody says, “We read that the Scripture says, ‘…I will put none of these diseases on you, which I have brought upon the Egyptians…,’ so how can you say God is not the One who brings sickness?” Friend, there are some words which when translated from the original Hebrew text miss their real meaning. In the original Hebrew text, some words are used in the causative sense. For example: “I am the one responsible for this.” On the other hand, some words are used in the permissive sense. For example: “I am not the One responsible for it. It’s not from Me; but there’s nothing I can do to stop it from getting to you, because you have not kept your part of the bargain.” That portion of Scripture translated in Exodus 15:26 is in the permissive sense in the original Hebrew text.

Lord, You are my Healer. In no circumstance or situation do You ever put sickness on me. Thank You for this liberating truth.
