16 Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.
Jeremiah 15:16
The Word of God is spiritual food! Job said something similar to what Jeremiah said. He said he esteemed the words of God more than his necessary food (Job 23:12). He was putting the Word in a place of priority above what people usually prioritize. Can you truly treasure the Word of God more than the food you eat?
I remember when I was a much younger Christian and I used to fast a whole lot. I could go for days without eating. My heart was right but my understanding was wrong. I thought that by fasting and denying myself and praying tirelessly, I would get results faster and make a reluctant God move on my behalf. I found out soon after, that fasting and praying were excellent tools in the life of a Christian, when done right. To do it right, I needed to deny myself food in order to focus on my spiritual food, the Word of God.
I also found out that fasting did not bribe God and coerce Him to change His mind! His mind was already made up in my favour before I was born. Rather, fasting was for my sake. It was to put my body under so that my inner man could focus and eat the spiritual food of the Word of God. As I began to fast and pray, focus to study the Word aright, I found out more about what God had already done for me.
The Word of God is spiritual food, so focus and eat the Word of God. As you eat it and use it, it will bring physical food, clothing, houses and all the other things that the unbelievers seek. By eating the Word of God as spiritual food you will be able to live the life Jesus came to give you and live it more abundantly. You may as well forget about living the abundant life if you don’t eat the spiritual food called the Word of God.
Confession:
God’s Word is spiritual food for me. I have found the Word. I will eat it and live by it.
