13 Then three of the thirty chief men went down at harvest time and came to David at the cave of Adullam. And the troop of Philistines encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
14 David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.
15 And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”
16 So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD.

2 Samuel 23:13-16

At harvest time, David longed to drink water from the well of Bethlehem. The three mighty men went through the troops and fetched what I’d like to call a drum, bucket or a jerry can of water and brought it to David. However, David said, “No, I won’t drink it; I’ll pour it out.” It means that in the midst of the people David poured the water out onto the Lord. David gave his offering publicly.

A lot of us have misunderstood the Scripture that says that when you give, your left hand must not know what your right hand is doing (Matthew 6:3). So we say, “Whatever I’m going to give, I’m just going to do it secretly.” God is not against public worship or public offering. What He is against is a wrong motive: when you want to show off. However, if you are giving publicly in order to honour His Name and teach others to do so, God approves of it.

When it is time to praise the Lord, even if you are a managing director or the principal of a school, forget about your position. If your staff members or students are there in the congregation and other people who have admired you are also present, pay no attention to them. Give praise and thanksgiving unto the Lord publicly, irrespective of who is looking at you.

David removed his outer clothes while praising God in public (2 Samuel 6:15- 17). When Michal, his wife saw him, she derided him. As a result of this, she never had children. The lesson here can be found in the reversal of Michal’s experience; if you praise God publicly, you will be fertile in your finances, in material things, and in your body. Praise God publicly. Praise Him anyhow, praise Him anyway. Praise Him with everything that you have.

Father, I will give You praise publicly and it doesn’t really matter who sees me or who doesn’t see me. I bless You because You are worthy of all the praise.
