17 And if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Romans 8:17
That expression “joint heirs” is awesome. We are not co-heirs; rather the Bible is careful to say we are joint heirs with Christ. Co-heirs are those who share and divide the inheritance willed to them in different proportions. Co- heir A may get 55%, Co-heir B may get 30%, and Co-heir C has the remaining 15%. None of the co-heirs has access to 100%.
To be a co-heir sounds good, but God had something better in store for us! He called us joint heirs because of the manner of love He bestowed upon us that has made us His sons! To be joint heirs means that each child of God has access to all that God has. That means we all have access to God’s healing – there is enough healing to heal every joint heir in the world of the worst diseases imaginable, and simultaneously if necessary. As joint heirs we have full access to God’s wealth: to the Cadillacs, to the luxury yachts, to the exotic houses, to the gold and silver. There is enough to go round!
Wherever you have the principle of joint heirs, there has got to be two things: trust and equality. For example, in a family, if a husband and wife run a joint account, the joint account will only run smoothly if trust and equality are present. Similarly, I trust my big brother and joint heir, Jesus. I have no fear that Jesus took all the best parts and left me the not-so-good-parts, because we are joint heirs. Everything Jesus has access to, I also have access to.
The minute you became a saint, you were made a partaker of the inheritance – a joint heir with Christ. You have access to your Father’s entire kingdom. Everything that is His, you have access to. The only limitation remains your knowledge and your faith.
Confession:
I am an heir of God. I am a joint-heir with Christ Jesus. I have access to all the wealth of God my Father. There is no shortage here; my Father has more than enough to go round!
