God Went Ahead of Us

When my son concluded his NIIT programme, he talked about taking a job and doing a top-up course online but later he decided to conclude his studies abroad. I remembered a testimony shared in church by a sister who said she and her husband’s pocket will not be a hindrance to their children’s education, l keyed into it and declared it always too. I went to God in prayer, first asking if He is in support of this idea because l didn’t want to do what wasn’t in His plan for me. I then had an answer of peace. More so I began to sow seeds into the lives of people l knew who had gained admission into higher institutions in Nigeria or abroad. I had often told my children never to anchor their hope on me because l could fail them at any time. I encouraged them to first table their plans before God in everything. We prayed, broke bread on a daily basis concerning all of this.

During Our year of better things, I took the prophecy personally. So we began searching for a school. Two of such schools offered him admission and he chose one. Then the main work started which was to source for funds. Being a school teacher, my five years’ salary put together won’t do much. Thus I knew I needed to rekindle my faith. I went to my financial institutions to see what they could do for me but they didn’t have much to offer. I continued to table every movement I made to God in prayers. God asked me one day to pick up a paper and biro, and do the math and give Him the answer. He asked me: “What is the ratio of two hundred and fifty naira to the growth so far in The Carpenter’s church?” I broke down and told Him I was sorry. He told me He has gone ahead to make every crooked way straight, and that was the Word that kept me going. When people who knew about it would ask me how things were, I’ll simply say that God has gone ahead; meanwhile the deadline was so close and we have not paid a dime.

One day I came to church, took my son by the hand and walked him into the auditorium as a step of faith. I said, “Eddy, I am seeing you off to your school.” I hugged him and said, “Goodbye, face your studies.” Immediately after that, a couple called to ask about my son’s admission and I quoted my Scripture, “God has gone ahead to make every crooked way straight.” They were helpful and we started processing the admission. Series of counter ideas came but we stood firm, knowing Whom we have heard from and Whom we serve; and that He is not an author of confusion. God gave me the right word to use in all cases, for which I give Him praise.

As we started processing the admission, every other payment became a story. For a fee that was worth about five million naira, what I paid from my pocket was about one million seven hundred thousand Naira. At some point after he left, he received a gift of one hundred thousand naira from someone and he asked me to sow it as seed for him into the auditorium project despite the fact that his school fees were not completed yet at that time. Immediately he took that step, God sent help predominantly through church folks and every payment was made without stress.

When he got there he joined a local assembly. His testimony has been that any one that sees him would say, “There is something about you, see me tomorrow or see you in church,” and they would give him money or provision. A couple over there told him to visit them at any time and whenever he does, they gave him a lot of Nigerian food, making him feel at home. My son graduated with a good result and did his IT internship with a local airline overseas and was retained.

This could only be God. I give Him all the praise. He is Jehovah Over-Do. Join me praise Him without ceasing.
