1 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12 So she said, “As the LORD your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.
14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth.’”
1 Kings 17:11-14
When you are gripped with fear and you withhold what you have, it eventually finishes and you are left with nothing. The only option you have is to go and lie down and die. This was the only picture the widow had of her future. Even the assurance of a commandment from God, which could only bring good to her, was veiled by fear.
Maybe the Spirit of God has ministered to you to give something to the running of the local assembly where you belong; or to give something to your pastor, or partner with a ministry that is preaching the Word. Maybe He has ministered to you to give a scholarship to an ex-prostitute who is now saved, or what- ever it is that God wants you to give. When you received that ministration, you knew it was God and you knew exactly what to do, but then fear came in, with all kinds of suggestions designed to stop you from obeying God. Hear the voice of God saying to you today: “Fear not!”
If God has commanded you to release sacrifices and offerings unto Him go ahead and do it and like the widow you will see that your barrel of meal will not waste, neither will your jar of oil run dry. Hallelujah!
Confession:
I have no fear in me. As God ministers to me to give and make sacrifices, I will obey Him. I will not yield to the suggestions of fear designed to stop me from obeying.
