13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.”

1 Kings 17:13

It is possible God is nudging you to do something that will make a demand on your faith. You wish the still, small voice of the Spirit of God would go away. You might have tried to “bind” the voice of the Spirit of God, in case it was the Devil speaking to you!

Your heart knows it is God speaking to you to give, but you may be saying, “The money I have been setting aside for that property I want to buy is not yet complete; I need to complete it before I can sow this seed.” Then you kneel down and pray for God to do some- thing about that same need. Didn’t God know that you hadn’t gotten all the money for the property when He nudged you to do something? Has it ever occurred to you that it is because He knew you needed the money that He nudged you to make a demand on your faith and give Him something to multiply? In 2 Corinthians 9:10, we see that God multiplies our seed sown. If we sow nothing, then He, the God who is more than enough, has nothing to multiply. Even mathematically, anything multiplied by zero is zero!

In this story, Elijah told the widow to make a demand on her faith. You will never know how much faith you have until you make demands on it. The difference between belief and faith is that faith takes action. The best time to act on the Word of God is immediately you hear it, because if you allow the passage of time, the Devil will come and sow seeds of unbelief into your heart. The way to break the bondage of fear is to act. Do exactly the opposite of what the fear is telling you to do. When you do that you make a demand on your faith, and your faith will work.

When you make demands on your faith, the size of your faith becomes immaterial because it will stretch to fulfil the purpose for which you need it. Some people come to me and say, “Pastor, do you know why I’ve never come to give you any offering, even though you bless me a lot? I feel my gift is too small.” Well, many years later they are still stuck with that same excuse! Nothing has changed because they never took a step of faith.

Father, I thank You because I know You know what I need. Whenever You ask me to give something, even if it is something I have set aside for my need, I understand that it is because You want to do something about the need I have. I will obey You and make a demand on my faith to give.
