BEHOLDING THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD

4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.

Psalm 27:4

There is an extremely beautiful picture painted in this verse and this should be a desire shared by every believer. As believers these are things we should seek when we come together as a local assembly. We should seek to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire or seek knowledge in His temple.

However in many churches, when believers come together they meditate upon the works of the Devil all day long. In some places, services are held seven days a week so as not to “give the enemy any little breathing space.” Unfortunately, it is the brethren who are worn out and exhausted! They hate the routine, but they keep coming because of fear and their religious approach to Christianity. Each time they come, it is not to behold the beauty of the Lord or to inquire at His temple. No. For them church services are constant “battles” and “warfare” with the Devil. Instead of meditating on the beauty of the Lord, there is always one deliverance or the other to carry out. They come to church and the pastor conducts deliverance and the people throw up strange things. The never ending cycle continues. This ought not to be so.

The primary reason why we come together as believers is to meditate on God’s Word and behold His beauty in worship and praise. When you meditate upon God’s Word, deliverance takes place as your mind is renewed. You realize what the Bible means when it says He has delivered (past tense) you from the kingdom of darkness and translated you into the kingdom of His dear Son, Jesus (Colossians 1:13). This is one of my favourite Scriptures. He has already delivered you, but fear wants to distract you and make you lose focus of what He has already done. Fear wants to make you keep your focus on the Devil.

Confession:
I seek to behold the beauty of the Lord and His knowledge as I meditate upon His Word. Deliverance takes place in my mind as I meditate upon His Word. I will not be distracted by fear and lose focus on what God has done for me.
