8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:8-9
Christians quote this portion of Scripture a lot, as an explanation for why they cannot think like God. However, this is not referring to you the believer. That is clear from the previous verse: “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:7). This is not talking about the righteous; it is talking about the wicked because the righteous can think like God. If your thoughts don’t align with God’s thoughts, then you are not behaving like a son, but like a bastard. As a child of God, you are to know the mind of God. When you know the mind of God and your life begins to exemplify the unusual, people will marvel. You need to know what God is doing and know what you must do, in order to cooperate with Him. You must change your mind-set, to align with the Word of God.
Dare to think God’s way in accordance with God’s Word and see what will happen. I remember something that happened once, when I was preaching to a student crowd at the Federal University of Technology, Yola in the northern part of Nigeria. There was this boy who was deliberately distracting the meeting. I was talking about the glory of God and a tangible manifestation of the glory of God filled the whole place. At a point, during the service as the boy was still making loud negative comments, God said to me, “Take oil and anoint that boy’s head and immediately he will receive the Holy Ghost.” When God said that, I said to myself: This boy who has been disturbing this meeting? This is how our mind-set can get into the way of what God wants to do. Then God said, “Just do what I have asked you to do.” So I went up to where he was and I anointed him. Immediately, he began to speak in other tongues and the whole place went wild with shouts of praise because the boy was a notorious boy.
Confession:
I will align my thoughts with God’s thoughts. I will not allow any thought that is not of God stand in the way of what God wants to do in my life. My mind is being changed to line up with the Word of God.
