1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When you surround yourself with darkness, you surround yourself with the natural habitat, the breeding ground for fear. When you stay in darkness, you are giving fear the fertilizer it needs to multiply rapidly in your life.
You can look at darkness as sin. When you remove the darkness of sin, and surround your life with the light of righteousness, you positionally remove the natural habitat for fear.
Maybe a Christian lady had premarital sex, and then got pregnant and she asked God to forgive her. God forgave her and He forgot about it. Even though God has forgiven and forgotten, she is still very vulnerable to fear because she may not have forgiven herself. Throughout that pregnancy, if she doesn’t guard her mind, she will remain afraid. The Devil will keep accusing her because her sin provided a habitat of darkness and though she’s forgiven, she still finds it very difficult to forgive herself and forget it. Unfortunately, it is her self-condemnation that maintains the atmosphere for fear to thrive in.
Another way you can look at darkness is as ignorance. When you don’t have the light of God’s Word about your situation then you just become afraid. You become afraid of sickness because you don’t know that by His stripes you were healed (1 Peter 2:24; Psalm 107:20). You are afraid of lack because you don’t know that He shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
You rid yourself of the darkness of ignorance by surrounding yourself with the beautiful light of God’s Word. That is why you must seek after knowledge. The more you let the light of God’s Word flood your mind, the less likely it is that fear would take a hold of it and dwell in it. As a Christian, the battle is in your mind. That is why you cannot underestimate the power of God’s Word. As you get renewed in your mind every day, fear cannot take a hold of you.
Confession: Father, I thank You for the radiance of Your Word that dispels every darkness. Every fetter of fear over my life is broken as I surround myself with the light that comes from the knowledge of Your Word.
