1 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
Sometimes, testimonies can help you understand the application of a truth from the Word of God. You can also get encouragement from other peoples’ victory stories when you remember that God is no respecter of persons but He is a respecter of those who have faith in Him.
In 1998, my second daughter actually died at birth and turned “blue” in colour but was miraculously revived. She was put in the Intensive Care Unit, and after several tests and procedures, she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. We burst out laughing when we heard the diagnosis because we saw the desperation in the enemy after his plan to take her life at birth did not succeed. The doctor booked us for an operation in two weeks’ time. Although they expected the operation to be successful, they told us that she would have to be visiting the hospital biannually (twice a year) to check that her heart was doing fine.
All this was happening in the United States of America and we lived in Nigeria. My husband was scheduled to travel back to Nigeria the week after I had the baby. We talked about whether he should go back or delay his trip. We didn’t have to talk about it for too long because we had believed and had seen a picture of a healthy baby all through the pregnancy. All through the crisis, this is what we had seen. We insisted on discharging the baby from the hospital. The doctors insisted that I had a quick training in CPR on a life-size doll baby, because according to them, her heart could fail at any time. I obliged them, did the training and took my baby home. My husband got on the plane and went back to Nigeria.
Now, it would be irresponsible for any father to leave his wife and a brand new baby about to go in for an operation in his absence. However, he was not irresponsible, he simply believed. We had God’s diagnosis. A week after he went back I took her to the hospital and several doctors did her ECG in disbelief. Her doctor exclaimed, “I can’t believe this is the same baby. This is a cure by The Great Physician!” She said my baby had a perfect heart and her case file was closed in the hospital, and no further visits were required. It isn’t just doing what you are told to do. You’ve got to see the picture first, and then you can plant your seeds.
Confession: By faith, I see things the way God sees them and I act out the picture I see.
