1 Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.
Can you imagine how it was, when Mary Magdalene was always around Jesus? She must have been like an irritant to others in His ministry. People may have said that she was overzealous, but she would say, “You do not know what He did for me.” If there were any who were called to Jesus’ ministry, but were lazy and could not wake up on time, they would have been bothered, because Mary’s commitment was showing them up. However, Mary was not doing it to show them up, it was her thankful heart that made her stand out.
She would have remembered herself crazy and naked on the streets, cutting herself. Nobody wanted anything to do with her then, because she was possessed by seven demons. Now she would look at herself and say, “Is this me? I was mad and naked on the streets. Is this me?” That is why before the sun could rise she would come to the ministry of Jesus and say, “Master, is there anything I can do? I just need to be around you. I have an addiction I cannot break.”
People may look at you and say, “Are you the only one who can voluntarily serve in church?” You reply, “You don’t understand; you don’t know what He has done for me.” Others may say, “You are not the only one in the cleaning team, but you always come here before 6 a.m. to clean. Why are you making us look bad before of our leaders?” You reply them, “I am not doing this so you would look bad; but I have an addiction to Jesus. I can never forget how He changed my life completely.”
Somebody who has an addiction does not care what any other person thinks. Somebody who has an addiction to a hard drug does not even care who is watching while they take a shot of the drug. Somebody who has an addiction would have nothing stand in his or her way in order to get “a fix.” It’s not enough to tell people to see what the Lord has done for you; it is your addiction to Him and His work that testify loudly of the Lord’s goodness.
Confession: Jesus has completely changed my life. I am completely addicted to Him.
