22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.
23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
1 Samuel 16:22-23 (KJV)
The Bible says Samuel anointed David and after that an evil spirit came upon Saul. Saul’s servants went to fetch a man whom the Bible described as a skillful player to play on the harp, so that when the evil spirit came upon Saul he would play and the spirit would depart from him. That was exactly what happened. The skilful player was David. David was nice and good looking. When he came, he played skillfully before Saul and found favour his sight.
David was anointed but he was also skilful. Your anointing, your gifts, and your talents will attract God’s favour into your life. Your anointing is not an abstract thing; it is God’s ability or enablement to do what He has called you to do. The Bible even says that the gift of a man will make a way for him and will bring him before great men (Proverbs 18:16).
Esther is another person who was well favoured. She gained this favour in the sight of King Ahasuerus because of her beauty. Her beauty was a gift from God, but nowhere do we read that Esther went naked or half naked because she wanted to approach the king. Unfortunately some of our Christian sisters do this, when they want to go and win a particular con- tract. They think they have to show the unbelieving manager all their body parts, which should be covered, for them to get what they want. When the man asks for a night in bed with them and they agree, he gives them the con- tract. They turn around and say, “It was God’s favour.” They know that they are lying. Some Christians do such unpleasant things. If you are one of them, you can repent today. Such unbecoming behaviour is not what gives you favour before men, because most of these men who take ladies to bed, still don’t give them the contracts, and the ladies cannot cry out to anyone. It is your gifting, anointing, and talents that will bring God’s favour to you.
Confession: Father, thank You for the skills You have endowed me with, thank You for the anointing You have placed on my life. Thank You because they make ways for me and bring me into greatness.
